Lions Life Skills

Since 1984, the Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland were financial supporters, endorsers and partners of the charity, Tacade (The Advisory Council for Alcohol and Drug Education) in providing lifeskills based education initiatives and resources for those working with children and young people from the ages of 3 to 19 years.

Tacade was a leading charitable organisation in the United Kingdom working in the field of personal, social, health and citizenship education. Over 75% of the 20,925 primary schools and more than 60% of the 4,168 secondary schools in the United Kingdom utilised Tacade’s resource material.

Partnership working was central to the charity’s success and a particularly important year was 1984, as the charity established what was to become, a strong and effective alliance with Lions Clubs International. The relationship between the two organisations proved to be mutually beneficial and the development of an active partnership was the natural outcome of their collaboration and co-operation for over 27 years.

Unfortunately, in early 2012, the charity went into voluntary liquidation, however, the Lions Clubs British Isles and Ireland were successful in acquiring the stock of publications, the publishing rights and the intellectual property of Tacade.

A new organisation named Lions MD105 Lifeskills Ltd (known as Lions Lifeskills) was established and pleased to be in a position to be able to continue with the provision and development of lifeskills based resources to address the health and wellbeing for all children and young people.

Lions Lifeskills has researched, developed and published the following resources:

Life Changes 2 – loss, change and bereavement resource for those working with 11-16 year olds

Up in Smoke – a smoking education resource for those working with 11-16 year olds

Health and Wellbeing – a CD Rom for those working with 7-11 year olds

Worked in partnership with the Healthy Schools London network to distribute resources supported by Lions Clubs across the South East of England and London.

Worked in partnership with Public Health Wales to translate and distribute copies of Up in Smoke and Keys to Smoking for all primary and secondary schools across Walesand much more.
