Phil Nathan has been actively involved in the life of his community for many years. In the case of Phil Nathan the term ‘community’ has several guises, beginning in the locality where he lives and extending, in stages, to encompass the international community.
Born and raised in North London he left college at the age of 18 for the “big city”, becoming a ‘messenger’ with a firm of stockbrokers.
In addition to his Lions activities Phil’s skills and abilities as a leader, strategic thinker, motivator and communicator have been recognised by his appointment to the Boards of world leading charities.
Initially a Lions nominated Director, he was subsequently elected Chairman of the MedicAlert Foundation for the British Isles & Ireland; he has successfully introduced MedicAlert Canada to the Lions of Canada where a partnership project has had outstanding results.
In 2008 Phil was appointed as a Director of Special Olympics GB, an organisation with which Lions worldwide have a long standing and successful relationship.
He constantly uses his network of contacts for the benefit of Lions and Lions’ partners. Phil has sourced the last two sponsors for the MD Young Ambassador Competition, Reuters and Winterflood Securities and found sponsors to assist Tacade with their product launches. For causes in connection with Lions Clubs International A Gift For Living he has to date been responsible for securing anonymous corporate donations in the sum of more than £190,000.
Lion Phil is married to Heidi-Anne, herself a Lion.
2001 was a momentous year for Lion Phil when he was recognised by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to Lions Clubs International by being awarded the MBE.
Phil’s personal motto “Show you care, get involved, let’s enjoy ourselves” sums up the type of person he is; his passion for Lionism and what we do, love of our association and his motivational leadership, coupled with his ability for making the right decisions, under pressure, all add up to him being the right man for the job.
A “Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Securities Institute”, Phil recently completed 40 years service in the City of London, for the past 34 years he has worked for the longest established firm of stockbrokers in London, during which time the firm has grown from 70 to 900 staff and from one to thirty branches.
One of 12 directors, he runs all of the trading areas with a staff of 60, all of whom work on the “sharp edge”; its all about making decisions, the right decisions!
In a highly competitive environment Lion Phil is renowned for his integrity. He is a Fellow of the Securities Institute, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, a Charity Steward of The Stock Exchange Veterans and a Board Member of the Stock Exchange Benevolent Fund.
He is a Freeman of the City of London.
